THE AHLAHASA
On March 28 and 29, Albert Lea High School held the 2025 Tiger’s Roar talent show. A variety of talents were showcased with solo performances, as well as performances from a clarinet choir, saxophone quartet and show choir. There were a total of 15 performances throughout the two nights, including a pre-show performance by the Albert Lea High School jazz band. Over 50 students participated in Tiger’s Roar and showcased their skills with an exciting and entertaining night full of talent and music. “Tigers Roar is such a great way to display students’ talent, which is another reason why I wanted to take part. I wanted to be able to give back to the community and also show off my talent.” said senior New New.

At the pepfest on Feb. 13 the Winterfest Royalty nominees were introduced. There were two girls and two boys candidates from each grade. Royalty included Prince Axel Calderon (11), Jacob Miller (12), Princess Maya Fuller (11), Brecken Wacholz (10), Ethan Brownlee (9), Lord Given Saw (9), Lilly Elmer (9), Angela Buansombat (10), Queen Jenna Balfe (12), Hanna Austinson (11), Raegan Broskoff (8), Duchess Evalyn Holcomb (10), Jordyn Earl (8), and Lady Leighton Brenegan (9). Not pictured include: King Kaiden Baldwin-Rutherford (12), Piper Aanes (12), Blair Blake (11), Duke Kuol Duol (10), Thoo Kah (8) and Aidric Calderon (8). Student council member and Junior Prince Axel Calderon said, “It [the nomination] means that I’m kind of a student leader. I hopefully show younger kids what it means to be a part of the student council and lead the school.”
A Toast To Winter: Winterfest Week
New interim superintendent David Krenz in his office at Brookside. He retired after 12 years as the superintendent in Austin, Minn. The search for a new superintendent is underway. Online applications will close at 11:59 p.m. on March 4. The ALAS School Board is seeking community input through an online anonymous survey that will close on Feb. 19. The survey can be found at www.alschools.org.

ALHS Hosts First Robotics Tournament
Junior Rice Boettcher outside the Minnesota State Capital building in St. Paul on Jan. 9. Boettcher attended Minnesota Youth in Government Conference. “You can make a lot of friends there because there’s so many people,” said Boettcher. “Everyone was just very nice to each other and even though people got into debates, it was all very polite.”

Band President Maxx Richards organized a skating event with Ranissa Beerman, Ruby Mykkanen (12) , Katelyn Schmidt (10), Neveah Wacholz (12), Gunnar Hardison (12), and alumni Trenton Mikkels. “In each activity you are in you’re surrounded by new people and met with new challenges that always help you grow in new ways,” said Richards.

Erin Boorsma (12) was nominated by her peers as the Impact Student. This is one of many achievements Boorsma won this year. She is also a recipient of the Triple A award, was inducted on to the Wall of Inspiration and on the Homecoming Court. “Be as involved as you can, find a niche or find something you enjoy and do it with your whole heart,” Boorsma explains her personal philosophy for creating the best Senior year.
