As seniors are getting ready to graduate and go to postsecondary, college and university costs have increased a significant amount for the past few years. Students are graduating with a large amount of debt. What are high school students’ thoughts about this?

“College doesn’t always cost what it’s worth. It can be a good choice if you need a degree for your job, but it can also leave people with a lot of debt. How valuable it is really depends on the goals and how much you’re willing to pay.”
Devin Friehl (10)
“I personally believe that the cost of college should reflect on the Median wage of the jobs the major provides. To answer the question, I think it varies depending on the school and major. I think this because some schools have better facilities and provide a better learning experience.”
Karley Crawford (11)
“I often understand why college is so expensive but I do think it’s too expensive due to student loans that are hard to pay off. Depending on the career path you take, it can be a huge burden to pay loans off. College can be a great investment for some, while for others it’s not.”
Harsh Patel (12)
“Yes, the reason I think that is because of certain fields that involve life or death situations. One example could be the medical field. In this field, any mistake or misdiagnosis can kill someone. Although the education for these jobs are expensive and the amount of time needed for these jobs are large. They also give a sense of relief to patients knowing they had gone through intense education to earn the position for that job.”
Kate Peterson (11)
“I feel like the conversation of college cost and value of college education really just becomes more and more complicated. I personally believe college education is important. Furthering your education past high school sets you up for more success in life, and a college degree opens up way more opportunities. College is very overpriced today and I think that needs to change. However I also believe college education is essential to set you up for the rest of your life. You can’t put a price tag on your future. At the end of the day the price is the price, but it is ultimately worth paying.”
