When you think of a card game, you most likely think of something like Uno or GoFish, as they are popular card games that many generations have enjoyed playing. While we can all agree that these games are fun, the Hasa staff decided on a different game.
“Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza” is a fast-paced party card game that came out in 2017. The aim of the game is to be the first person to not have any cards. While going in a circle, each player puts a card down in the middle at a time. The words “Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza” are said in sequence. If the card placed matches the word said, you all hit the card. The last one to hit it has to take the entire stack in the middle. There are other cards in the game as well that you hit even if the word doesn’t match but you have to do an action before hitting it. For the narwhal, you have to make a cone-like shape on your head using your hands, and for the gorilla you have to beat your chest before touching the card. The game keeps going until the last person is left with all the cards.
Hasa tried to play this game, emphasizing the “tried” for the first round. A practice round started off the games to make sure everyone had an understanding of the rules. It was full of confusion and people realized some weren’t even able to reach the cards. Once everyone got the hang of it and we fixed any confusion, it got very competitive. Though, halfway through it was forgotten that this was just for practice and we continued playing until we realized when someone got out.
Once the real round started, it felt even more competitive. People were flinching towards the cards in order to not be the one taking the stack. The more cards added to the pile, the more anxious everyone felt. The game felt like it was going by super fast, but barely anybody was getting out. Finally, Kae Bee (12) had gotten rid of all of her cards, making her the technical winner. Everyone else kept playing, trying to be the next to be out. Tensions rose as more and more people got out. Some were sitting on the edge of their seats, making sure they weren’t late to the next card. We played until time ran out. With only five of us having time to get all of our cards gone.
While the game was seemingly confusing at first, everyone ended up having fun with it and how competitive it could be. It was a fun and good distraction from class stress. If you’d also like to have a hand in playing games with your friends, Tina in the library has an entire cart full for you to choose from. Games include chess and Uno.
