Throwback to our editorial on Free Spring Break Activities, the Ahlahasa Newspaper were discussing as a group one day about, what could you do in a small town during spring break?
You could go on a run around the lake, play basketball in open courts, or simply just go outside.
Many thoughts came up about what we could do, but what really caught our attention was shopping.
We loved the idea of shopping, but what if you were broke and only had 10 dollars?
Well, thrifting is your friend. The Ahlahasa tried thrifting at the Salvation Army to test it out.
We decided to split into two groups, each group got 10 dollars to spend. The challenge was to create an outfit. The requirements were a shirt, pants and one accessory. If you went with a dress then the pants weren’t required.
The two groups both chose to get dresses. This was a cost saving strategy because pants were an average of seven dollars. The budget couldn’t handle it.
Group one consisted of Rosa Corey-Gruenes, Madelyn Anderson, Alexis Godtland and Jorja Bolinger. In 15 minutes, they chose a floral green dress along with a green and white knit sweater. Their dress was paired with a green handbag, sunglasses and hoop earrings.
Their outfit was very chic and had triple the accessories required by the challenge.
Group one’s outfit came out to a total of 8 dollars and 58 cents. Which isn’t bad for an outfit, especially in this economy.
Group two consisted of Josephine Peterson, Ali Hafstad, Courtney Oakland, Carley Ladlie and Kae Bee. We also chose a dress, but it was more like a romper.
Our group needed 25 minutes to assemble a white dress with accents of red flowers. It was paired with a white knit cardigan, big red earrings and a red flower belt. Very lovely and included an additional accessory.
Our total came out to 9 dollars and 62 cents. With just 10 dollars you can create a whole outfit.
We had a fun time thrifting and bonding with each other.
Of course there were other ways to spend spring break, you don’t have to spend money to have a fun time.
We went into The Salvation Army with a plan, but we strayed from our original plan. However the outcome was better.
