The Imag is a student-lead literary magazine that showcases Albert Lea High School students’ artistic talents. These talents include photography, art, poetry and more. The Imag has been an annual publication for Albert Lea High School until Covid. The last time it was published was in 2019. The hope is to make the Imag big news again and to get all students with artistic talents to shine.
Junior Rosa Corey-Gruenes, a designer for the Imag, said,“I decided to join the Imag because I have a passion for art and design. While I’m definitely not an artist I enjoy taking in art.”
A literary magazine is a compilation of all types of literature and art. Sometimes art only gets grouped in with drawing or painting but it is so much more than that. English teachers currently have copies of past Imags for students to familiarize themselves with the concept since the Imag has not been printed while this student body has been at the high school. This year’s seniors would have been in 7th grade during the last printing.
“I decided to try something new, especially because this is newer to us because it hasn’t been done in a few years,” Sophomore and Imag staff member Kae Bee said. “I think people should join the Imag next year to step out of their comfort zone to try something new.”
The Imag will be put together artistically using Adobe Indesign by the staff to best present the selected art for printing. The Imag staff includes Corey-Gruenes, Bee, Sophomores Jorja Bolinger and Carley Ladlie, and Junior Piper Aanes.
Corey-Gruenes hopes to expand the size of the Imag, “We so often see the negatives of our school or just life in general and I’m so excited to see what people submit and see the good that this school creates through art.”
