Lively music floods the streets. Surrounded by towering buildings, flashing signs pour light on a crowd of grinning teenagers dancing enthusiastically.
You can have all the fun and excitement of a weekend in the cities at this year’s prom. On April 28, the ALHS gymnasium will have been transformed into a bustling city.
“It’s almost going to feel like you’re escaping to New York,” said prom committee member Megan Pulley.
Prom is in the air at ALHS. Students are eagerly preparing for the night. Hair and nail salons are filling up with appointments, tuxes are being rented and dresses are being bought.
The third annual Tiger Closet was held February 15 in the ALHS commons. TC gives people the opportunity to buy old prom dresses that are in good condition at a reasonable price. Proceeds from TC go to the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women. This year, ALHS raised over $100 for the cause.
“It’s great for people that can’t afford expensive dresses,” Pulley said. “They have some really good deals.”
Going to prom is definitely more fun with friends. Creative ways to invite that special someone are never in short supply. Invitations have been given through song, loaves of bread and beyond. Securing the perfect date is guaranteed with such great plans.
“Make sure you go with someone you want to go with,” said junior Gretta Johnson.
Arriving in style is another important part of prom. Standing out in the crowd is a must with prom. Some modes of transportation prom groups have used in the past include a standard car, tractor and even a school bus.
You look amazing, you have a date and wheels. Now what?
Make sure to grab your date and strut your stuff at the promenade. The promenade begins at 3:30 p.m. Robin One Photography is available for professional pictures before and after promenade.
When your family is done admiring how charming you look all dressed up, don’t forget to come back in time to get down. Dancing starts at 8 and lasts until midnight.
Feel free to take advantage of the day after prom too. Your prom group could watch a movie, go bowling or just about anything else. Whatever you do, make sure you get plenty of rest for class on Monday.
“Don’t let anyone ruin your night,” recommends Johnson.
