Excited, honored, humbled, shocked, and elated. These are the feelings Jen Zoller felt on July 25, 2011.
Jen Zoller is the Minnesota Assistant of Secretaries to the Principals Southwest Division Office Professional of the Year. She attended Alexandria Technical College for interior design for one and a half years, but then decided to move to Albert Lea. It was the summer of 1999 when Zoller decided to attend Riverland for Administrative Assistance; she attended for two years.
Zoller has been working at Albert Lea High School since June of 2001. In the office, Zoller handles e-mails, phone calls and mailing. She does everything everyone needs to proceed with their day, and she successfully completes her tasks.
An average day for Zoller would consist of processing student information, making appointments and working with assistant principals, counselors and social workers to complete other tasks.
“I do something different every day,” Zoller said.
Zoller said the only bad thing about her job is when the technology goes down, because everyone is so dependent on it. About 90 percent of her day is spent using technology.
“I can’t help anyone without my technology,” Zoller said.
She said learning new things and working with everyone within the guidance office are the most enjoyable things for Zoller on a day-to-day basis.
Zoller said she was honored when presented the award. She said it felt great to be recognized for the hard work she does every day.
“She’s nice, gets work done, and always has a bright, smiley face,” said junior Molly Tuohy.
Over the years, Zoller has worked with many different types of people. According to her they have all been great. If she had to choose any career besides working in the ALHS office she said she would start her own bakery shop, but she has no desire to work anywhere except ALHS.
“The office just wouldn’t be the same without her,” said junior Megan Pulley. “She’s so easy going with students and parents.”
