Bowling Team Competes in State

The Albert Lea Bowling team went to state on Saturday, Dec. 4. Team members were John Walstrom, Tyler Espe, Tyler Henderson, Colby Fjeldberg, Derik Burkard, Cody Olson, Christian Roche, and Chris Henderson. The Albert Lea bowling team took seventh place at the tournament.

They averaged a score of 203.99 for 22 games using the Baker system, a style of bowling in which each bowler takes two frames of a 10-frame game. The winning team for the state tournament was Superior, followed by Owatonna.

Albert Lea took first in the league and conference tournament. The conference consisted of eight teams: Albert Lea, Owatonna, Faribault, Mankato East, Mankato West, USC, St. Peter and LaSeur.

Afterward, Albert Lea competed in the state 10-game qualifier. Out of 32 teams, 24 move on to compete and Albert Lea was among them. Albert Lea then advanced to the eight-team match play, where Albert Lea played four matches, winning two matches and losing two in best of three games. In their first game, Albert Lea beat North St. Paul; in the second game Albert Lea lost to Superior; in the third game Albert Lea beat Worthington, and in its final game Albert Lea lost to Hopkins.
