With the sound of buzzers beeping and papers rustling, the knowledge bowl was something the team will not soon forget.
      Knowledge Bowl is something new to many people. For some members it showed them that they still had a lot to learn. However, even though it was difficult the team was still able to pull through. Albert Lea High School’s knowledge bowl team competed in Rochester on Dec. 13, 2010 and won.
     Knowledge Bowl competitions consist of four rounds with one written test and four oral rounds. The written test has 60 questions that four members on a team try to complete. In the oral rounds, team members choose one spokesperson and they have 15 seconds to answer the question.  
      “It was a great challenge,” said sophomore first-time Knowledge Bowl contestant Ben Leison. Knowledge Bowl originated in 1979, and since then has grown to more than 800 teams in Minnesota alone.
.      Leison liked the challenged that it gave him. With the questions being more than just a plain yes or no, they caused the team to think through every answer they gave. The competition also made the team unknowing of what questions were to come next.
      “It was a lot of fun, but made me realize how little I actually know,” said Naomi Wilkerson, junior.
      Even though there may have been things that one person didn’t know, the team worked hard to answer all the questions to the best of their knowledge. It was said to be a fun experience for all those involved, both competing and watching.
      “We had to put our knowledge to the test,” Leison said.
      The knowledge bowl tested the team to its capacity. With thousand of questions to choose from and hundreds of questions answered, the team was able to finish first in this strategic battle.
