Logan Herber

When Logan Herber was 12 years-old, a routine school field trip to Trollhaugen Ski and Snowboard Resort in Dresser, Wisconsin turned into a life-changing event. Having never been snowboarding, he was left skiing while his friends took off, snowboards in tow, to the terrain park. Instead of accepting this difference in ability, he begged his mother to buy him a snowboard. After being convinced by her son, she got him a snowboard from a family friend.

The following winter, Herber brought his snowboard along on the the annual class trip to Trollhaugen. Prior to the trip he had only used the board on a hill in his backyard, so the transition to a much larger hill was filled with falls and laughter.

Before Herber’s endeavors in the snow, he was an avid skateboarder. Taking his skills from skateboarding and applying them to snowboarding seemed like the right thing to do, he said.

“Right when I started to get a hang of [snowboarding], I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life,” Herber recalled.

In 2012, Zion Snowboards became Herber’s first sponsor. Since then, the 20 year-old Forest Lake, Minnesota resident has also gained the sponsorship of Zany Earth and Nectar Eyewear.

The world of snowboarding has evolved a lot since Herber entered it, and his style has changed with it. The “in” things during his start were far apart stances and baggy clothes. These days, things have changed.

“The stances [got] as close as can be and the clothes got nice and tight.,” Herber said.

Herber wasn’t about the skin tight clothes life, so he kept his baggy hoodies and found a stance he could groove with.

Since adolescence, Herber has longed to quench his thirst for exploration in Oregon. During the summer, he was granted with the experience to work and snowboard at Windells Ski and Snowboard Camp and got to board at his dream location in Mt. Hood, Oregon.

If you stop by Trollhaugen, chances are you’ll see Herber subconsciously giving into his habits of chewing on his tongue in spouts of intense focus or clanging out beats with some good old fashioned teeth percussion, all while gliding down runs with smooth style. His goals with snowboarding are pretty straightforward: not getting seriously injured, putting out a full street video part this year and riding for the rest of his life.

I will be that crazy old man that you meet on the chairlift that makes you question his sanity,” Herber said, chuckling.

Snowboarding is more than just a sport for Herber; he said it has guided him to break out of his once timid shell and taught him to give his everything in all he does while never giving up. Outside of snowboarding, he would like to learn to balance work and play while being happy with life decisions, such as finding a career he loves, and being the best he can be.
