They met at the fair. She was cleaning for volleyball; he was playing with his band. She looked for shade and heard him play, she told him “good job”. Three years later they are in love and about to get married.
Senior Maddi Dickey is to be married to Tom Delano on July 2nd 2011. Their wedding will be outside with their reception at the place they met, the fairgrounds. The maid of honor is Dickey’s sister Korrissa Bordeaux. The best man is Delano’s brother Mark Delano. Her bridesmaids are seniors Shelby Lageson, Kaila Beckner, and Melanie Pederson.
According to Kaila Beckner, Dickey getting married at such a young age was no surprise to her.
“There was no point in waiting, they are clearly in love.” Beckner said.
The hardest obstacle that the couple had to get past was people who don’t know them judging their decisions. Beckner feels it’s because they don’t truly know them.
“I think they are unique,” Beckner said. “I don’t see people in the high school generally happy like they are.”
The parents of both Dickey and Delano are supportive of the marriage. They knew it was going to happen eventually and it wasn’t a shock to them.
“My parents love her.” Delano said.
Dickey and Delano got engaged on Nov 21st 2010. He asked her to marry him at his parent’s house in front of his whole family.
“I was almost mad and embarrassed but I said yes.” Dickey said.
Delano is looking forward to married life and the time they will spend with one another yet he sometimes feels like they are already married.
“I’m excited about the little things we will be able to do together while living together, like waking up and eating cereal together.” Delano said.
Dickey has always felt that she would marry young. She also feels she is mentally old enough to get married.
“I don’t think there is an age limit on getting married,” Beckner said. “It just depends on the people.”
Both Dickey and Delano are excited about their upcoming marriage. They have enjoyed planning the wedding and are excited to see what the future brings.
