The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team started off their season on Thursday with a home game against Fairmont.

The game ended in a tie with both teams playing competitively throughout the game. Albert Lea totalled 42 shots on the net and Fairmont 27.

The Tigers started off strong with  Liley Steven (10)  scoring during the first period. The second period was intense, with Fairmont striking back to take the lead, 2-1. The Tigers had many near goals during the period but were unable to convert their efforts into points. The girls came back in the third period when senior captain Lucy Stay  scored the Tigers’ second goal, tying both teams at 2-2. This led them to a scoreless overtime period that ended the game in a draw.

“We might not have started in the place that we wanted, but I’m looking forward to building off of that momentum and having a good rest of the season,” Stay said.

The girls take to the ice again next on Tuesday at Woodbury. The puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.
