For many of us, the older Disney movies are a big part of our childhood. I think I can say for many of us that old Disney will forever be superior to new Disney. Old Disney provides the nostalgia and comfort that many of us seek. From what I have seen the newer generations have not been able to x movies that had real depth and meaning behind them like the older Disney movies. I don’t think any new animated movie will ever top the enchanting stories we used to have.
Many of the movies that I remember watching as a kid were “Mulan”, “Cinderella” and “Sleeping Beauty”. All of these movies tended to have something in common, and that was the way they focused on the character development, and the moral lesson they learned throughout the movie along with many impactful themes. Those factors tended to give the movies a more realistic feel and something to relate to which may provide us the comfort we look for in movies. Whereas the movies today seem to be based on being entertaining only so it may lack some of those qualities that the older movies had.
Another thing that plays a big role in how the older movies have more meaning to them are the visuals themselves. In some of the older movies they relied on hand drawn pictures, which meant they needed a lot more attention to details like the expressions each character is making and the interactions they have. A movie I remember seeing this in is the original “The Little Mermaid”. Since they needed to provide so much detail to really be able to tell the story, the emotions of each character had to be really vivid which also caused the movies to feel more special to the viewers. Recently, I realized that most of the newer movies I have seen seem to look similar animation wise, to me it all looks the same and it’s not really as unique as it used to be. Old Disney is better than New Disney, from what I have seen the older movies tend to have more of an important purpose to them and I don’t think anything can top the nostalgia they give.
