Student Council is helping to bring awareness to breast cancer this October by encouraging students to wear pink on Fridays and selling PureVida bracelets during lunches for $8. All the proceeds go to the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation. According to their website, the foundation alleviates “some of the financial burdens associated with breast cancer treatment.” They raised $400.

Cancer is a devastating disease that affects many. In 2020 over 17 million people in the United States were living with some form of cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, “in 2023 there are projected to be 1,958,310 new cancer cases and 609,820 cancer deaths in the United States”. Of the 17 million around 30% of cancer cases are female patients with breast cancer and 1% of breast cancer cases accounts for men.

There are many resources out there to help ease some of the pain felt by patients and families with members suffering from cancer. Some resources for cancer patients in Minnesota included: healthpartners.com, health.state.mn.us,carepartnersmn.org, or  reach out to local clinics for more resources.
