Staff Editorial: Opinions Matter

Staff Editorial: Opinions Matter

Here at the Ahlahasa we have come to the conclusion that high schoolers are at a weird time in our lives. Adults urge us to be informed on social issues, politics, world news, etc. However, they also communicate to us that our opinions don’t carry as much weight. The Ahlahasa wants each and every student at ALHS to know that your voice and perspectives do matter.
Obviously not everyone has the same opinion, and that’s alright. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution grants every citizen the freedom of speech. You can basically say whatever you want (within the law.)
The Ahlahasa is an open forum newspaper, which means anyone can write in and share their thoughts. This can be done through the “Letter to the Editor” section, which has been virtually non-existent. Hopefully we can flip that around this year, ALHS. We want to hear from YOU! You can either drop your Letter to the Editor off to room E204 or email it to us using our brand new email, [email protected].
We want to hear opinions and suggestions from everyone in the school, no matter the topic. This doesn’t disclude our own staff. Staff members who want to share their opinion will have their work printed in the “Opinion” section of our paper, not to be confused with our “News” section. Our news stories are always fact based and our opinion columns are, well, opinion based.
One of the greatest things about the United States is that people can and do have different opinions. The freedom to express those opinions and have the right to disagree with the opinions of others. Exercise your First Amendment rights by writing into the Ahlahasa!
