Heating up the Court
The Albert Lea Tigers boy’s basketball team has had a cold streak the past few seasons, without a single win during the 2014-15 season. That losing record was broken against the New Ulm Eagles on February 1st, 2016, with a 70-65 win. The streak had been going on for over two years, their last win being on January 31st, 2014.
Tiger’s senior forward, Jakob Kilby has been apart of the team since his freshman year at Albert Lea High School. With this being his last year with the Tigers, he wanted this win more than anything. Kilby had input on his view of the streak breaking win.
“I was excited that we won. It’s hard losing so many games in a row in basketball, but I also played on the football team who is on a losing streak, so finally being able to celebrate was awesome!”
Kilby was one of thirteen other varsity players that were able to experience the win. Don’t forget to mention the coaching staff, student section, and the community. It was exhilarating for everyone, going anywhere from the final few seconds of the game, all the way to the student section rushing the court to congratulate the players.
“I’ve heard a lot of different things about our program. I’ve been given a lot of congratulations because a lot of people think we earned it. Thanks to everyone for staying behind us!”
