Teacher/Spouse/Coach/Parent: Teachers learn to balance life with the demands of students

What did he just say?”
“Wait… What?”
Any of these moments of confusion can be heard in just about any classroom anywhere. Students have numerous reasons for not paying attention in class or simply not understanding to get help with homework or understanding the lesson. Then the teacher pushes by with a gym bag in one hand and papers in the other.
Teachers have been stepping up to fill coaching jobs and help kids with sports. This can be a delicate balance. Grading papers, long bus rides home, timing, helping to make that swing perfect. It’s a game of give and take.
“It’s supposed to be no child left behind. I feel left behind,” said junior Sydney Frazier, talking about her homework and the struggles to find a teacher after school.
“It can be a problem for teachers and students both,” said social studies teacher Jim Haney. “I’m watching the lunchroom and stuff in the morning and then after school I have track and also speech.”
While students might get upset with teachers not being there after school or even in the morning for help, one thing to keep in mind is there is only one of them. They have hundreds of students and athletes to worry about. They are trying their best to balance everything.
Not only is it single sided with the teachers being busy, students also have other things on their plates besides school. Work is a huge one for many students which can also be hard to balance, especially when a student needs help but has a job after school.
Teachers are there to help; they don’t want to see anyone fail their class. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is ask for help.
