French, English, and Spanish? Most students struggle to learn another language but Javier Errea has not only learned 3 languages but he has taken a step further by going to the USA and more importantly Albert Lea MN. From Spanish to English, from Pamplona Spain to Albert lea MN, Errea has been through many changes on his journey from Spain to the USA.
Errea is following in the footsteps of his older sister who recommended to him to becoming a foreign exchange student after she had done if a few years ago in Michigan. Errea also has a little brother who will be taking on the experience in a few years too.
Errea is living with the Furland family right now; with Tim, Thomas and his host parents, Sue and Bob.  Sue Furland who is the activities secretary.
Being the new kid can be hard and being the new kid from a different country who primarily speaks a different language can be even harder.
“It was hard like for the first month. But Soccer helped a lot.” Says Javier Errea.
Errea played on the JV soccer this year which he said really helped him meet new people and get out of his comfort zone. Meeting new people can be hard for anyone and that is the purpose of a host family is for the student coming over not to feel complete like a fish out of water. The host family is there to be supportive and help the student get adjusted to their new life.
“He has truly become like part of the family.” Said Furland.
With there being a shortage of host families Sue and her family were actually asked multiple times if they would be willing to host a student. Sometimes it can take months and up to a year to find a student a host family. After sorting through packets of possible kids the Furlands decided to go with Errea. Who had a lot in common with Tim and Thomas, all three of them loving the game of soccer.
When asked what Javier misses most about his country he responded.
“My family and the food. In Spain it’s healthier and different.” Say Errea.
Errea will be leaving sometime between June 10-15th and we wish him the best of luck in Spain!
