During the week-long Spring break there were two trips hosted through District 241. The band and orchestra programs went to Chicago and the French department went to Paris, France.
The Chicago trip was open to all band and orchestra students and occurred March 9-11.
They took 44 students, two directors and four chaperones on the near six hour bus ride. They spent two nights in the Windy City and stopped to perform at Oak Park Arms Retirement Center in Oak Park Illinois. They attend many other excursions including going to the Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute of Chicago, Navy Pier, Magnificent Mile, Field Museum of Natural History, Skydeck Chicago and The Ledge. They saw a performance of “Fiddler on the Roof” at Drury Lane Dinner theater and ate some Chicago Style Pizza at Giordano’s.
“It was a really fun experience,” said Sophomore Nina Zhang. “I definitely made a lot of new memories with my friends.”
The second trip to Paris, France departed from Minneapolis International Airport on Monday the 11 and returned on Monday the 18 of March. After an eight hour flight and flying over six time zones the first thing on the itinerary was to go on a walking tour of the City of Lights. The trip was open to all French students in levels 1-4.
Eight students along with two chaperones, were led by French teacher Peter Sunnarborg. On this trip they visited many of Paris’ iconic locations such as the Louvre, the Musee D’Orsay, the Arc De Triomphe, Notre-Dame Cathedral, took a Sine River tour, of course the Eiffel Tower and much more.
“I’ve been wanting to go on that trip since I was a kid,” said Junior Marelyn Grande Lopez. “And I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower.”
